This hands-on workshop will focus on providing you with an overview of this exciting movement within the advising community called Appreciative Advising. The presentation is based on the book titled, The Appreciative Advising Revolution, which the presenter co-authored with Dr. Bryant Hutson and Dr. Ye He from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. We will first define the term Appreciative Advising and look at the important role that advising plays in student success. The six phases of Appreciative Advising – Disarm, Discover, Dream, Design, Deliver, and Don’t Settle – will be defined. Participants will not only learn what each phase means, but they will also have the opportunity to learn specific techniques for implementing each of these phases.
The workshop will begin at 9:00 am and last until noon, with a casual networking lunch to follow in the event space.
Cost to attend is $60 for GACE members and $100 for non-members. Lunch will be included in the cost of attendance.
