Leveraging Graduate Student Talent

  • Friday, October 09, 2015
  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • (webinar)
Thinking about tapping into the local campus graduate student talent to augment your career services staffing?  Do you already have graduate students and wonder what else you could be doing to enhance your training?

Eight years ago, the University of Kansas Career Center began collaborating with two campus graduate programs (Counseling Psychology and Higher Education Administration) in order to augment career counseling staffing.  Sixty students later, we have come to appreciate the unique challenges as well as rewards of working with a large staff of graduate students from multiple programs.

As a result of this program, participants will be able to identify elements of successful collaboration, supervision and training of graduate students from multiple programs.  Knowledge gained from this program would be beneficial to both career services professionals who currently supervise graduate students (and other student para-professionals) and those with aspirations to become supervisors in the future.

About the Speaker: Wendy Shoemaker

As the Senior Associate Director of the University Career Center, Wendy Shoemaker leads, hires and trains a large career counseling staff that provides the sole source of career counseling to the University of Kansas community.  Two thirds of her staff are graduate students from Counseling Psychology and Higher Education Administration programs.
