Job Summary
The Career Development Coordinator ll will assist in providing leadership and direction for career development and graduate and professional school planning; providing both co-curricular programming and advising to students and alumni. The Career Development Coordinator ll will a serve as the primary liaison to select majors in the College of Arts & Sciences and College of Health Sciences, and will help lead the planning of two Graduate & Professional School Fairs a year and the development and implementation of a Graduate & Professional School Week.
Responsibilities
Advising - 65%
Advise and coach students in one-on-one and group settings (including workshops and class presentations) to include but not limited to c/v, cover letters and resume reviews, mock interviews, career and major exploration, personal statement reviews, graduate school and professional school application process, career transition topics, graduate and professional school search strategies, and shadowing/internships/job search strategies. Stay current on trends, resources, research, and recruitment activities that impact students who are applying to graduate and professional school. Research career information and resources to assist students with career decision-making.
Liaison - 15%
Serve as a liaison with academic departments, student life departments, and student organizations to communicate programs, services, and address student needs. Liaison duties include communicating about career development programs, networking opportunities, and graduate and pre-professional school planning services. Work closely with academic advisors to help students plan for prerequisites and other academic qualifications for continued education. Disseminates information on graduate and professional school preparation, career development resources, and makes appropriate referrals.
Program Management - 15%
Develop, manage, coordinate, and implement graduate and professional school and career development information/resources and co-curricular career development programming. Programming to include but not limited to, two graduate and professional school week's and graduate and professional school fairs each academic year, information sessions with graduate admissions representatives visiting campus, professional development and graduate and professional school preparation activities such as workshops, networking events in partnership with the Employer Relations/Internships team, class presentations, and all other activities that support the Career Planning Milestones and student professional development needs.
Supervision - 5%
Lead student assistant training and supervise office interns and student staff.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
- Master's degree in Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field.
Required Experience
- At least 1 year of experience in career services, academic advising, or related functional area with one-on-one advising. Candidates should have experience in and an understanding of career advising and program development at a collegiate level and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty, alumni and employers. Candidates should also have a commitment to student success and to diversity in an educational setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
- 2-3 years of full-time professional experience within career services or a similar functional area within higher education.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
- Capable of multi-tasking and setting priorities within a team environment, and the ability to use technology for tracking and monitoring student progress for completing career development plans and career outcomes.
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of the graduate and professional school application process and student development theories to identify, select, and implement career coaching/advising/counseling interventions and techniques appropriate to student goals.
- Knowledge of employability skills and ability to help students connect their experience to these skills.
SKILLS
- Leadership, assessing student needs, and working with them to develop career action plans.
- Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to build strong advising relationships to increase student engagement and use of career resources and services.
- Design skills using Microsoft Office or Adobe products for developing professional online and printed resources.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, program development and assessment, and presentation skills.
